Simple, Not Easy: The Truth About Optimal Wellness

Have you noticed how complicated everything seems to be these days? Every day a new "protocol" drops about how to time your meals or sun exposure. New fad diets arise and fade away, each demonizing one or more of the basic macronutrient categories. The supplement industry is a booming business with little to show in the way of actual results, and yet somehow they make it seem worthwhile to spend more and more on green powders and multivitamins, as if your dream life is just one more pill bottle away. New possible dietary intolerances are being invented every day.

As I've entered the 5th decade of my life, I've realized that I just don't have time for it anymore. None of it really matters, and everything that actually works are things that your grandparents could have known about.

  • Move your body outdoors.
  • Lift heavy things.
  • Center your diet on lean meats and eat tons of plants.
  • Get enough sleep.

That's it. That is peak health and human performance. It's simple.

But it's not easy.

I think that's the issue that most people come up against: it's hard to be consistently faithful to these things year after year. We'd rather rely on scientists to figure it all out for us, and spend our way to optimal health. "Easy but complicated" is just so appealing and marketable. But if you want results that really last, there is no way around the simple things that actually work. It's going to be uncomfortable at times, but you will never regret showing up in any of these ways.

What is one area that you can improve on to be a stronger person in the next decade of your life?
